How it reads

Antique White is a Lime Wash colour from Portola Paints & Glazes, described by the brand as "a bright white with a subtle warm undertone". Portola also sells it as colour-matched paint for ceilings, doors and trim.

As a lime wash it gives walls a soft, slightly mottled surface rather than a flat colour. Portola notes lighter colours like this one show less movement than darker shades.

What Antique White is

Antique White is one of Portola Paints & Glazes' Lime Wash colours. Portola describes it as a bright white with a subtle warm undertone.

Portola does not publish a hex or LRV and says its digital swatches are rough estimates, so sample a jar on your own wall.

How lime wash behaves

Lime wash blooms to the surface and dries with soft variation. Portola co-founder Jamie Davis told Business of Home it creates a soft, two-tone effect.

On a light colour like Antique White the movement is gentle. Portola suggests a diluted third coat if you want more.

Where to use it

In the Anja Michals Design bedrooms on this page, photographed by Jessica Burke, it gives the walls a soft, chalky texture behind a timber headboard and linen bedding.

Portola's Lime Wash isn't wipeable, which makes bedrooms and living rooms a better fit than busy kitchens or kids' rooms. Jamie Davis recommends a protective coating in high-traffic or wet areas.

Applying it

Portola specifies its Limeproof Undercoat, with stain-blocking primer first on new drywall, and says sheened walls should be sanded. Apply two brushed coats in a cross-hatch and keep a wet edge.

Coverage is about 150 to 200 square feet per gallon over two coats. Matching paint is available for trim and ceilings.
