How it reads

Breakfast Room Green No. 81 is, in Farrow & Ball's words, "the most cheerful of all our greens, remaining lively in both bright sunlight or softer candlelight". The brand adds that it is particularly beautiful in the dawn light.

Farrow & Ball names Slipper Satin as its complementary white. In The Design Atelier room on this page it covers walls and cabinetry around a sash window, a classic way to use it in a kitchen or pantry.

What Breakfast Room Green is

Breakfast Room Green is a mid green that Farrow & Ball calls the most cheerful of all its greens, remaining lively in both bright sunlight and softer candlelight. The brand says it is particularly beautiful in the dawn light.

Designer Meredith Ellis, speaking to Chairish, says it has just the right amount of blue in it, which keeps it fresh rather than olive.

How it behaves in light

Farrow & Ball colour curator Joa Studholme, in Livingetc, suggests it for a south-facing sitting room, and calls it a young, jovial family colour compared with the more intimate Green Smoke.

Livingetc also recommends it for east-facing rooms used for breakfast, where it makes the most of morning light. We have not found sourced commentary on north-facing rooms, so sample it there.

Where to use it

In The Design Atelier room on this page, photographed by Emily Followill, it covers walls and cabinetry around a sash window, a classic kitchen or pantry treatment.

Livingetc notes it works colour-drenched on walls and woodwork together, and Homes & Gardens has featured it on kitchen cabinets.

What it sits next to

Farrow & Ball names Slipper Satin No. 2004 as its complementary white, and its schemes pair it with Off-White and Whirlybird, or with Calke Green and Studio Green for a deeper look. Joa Studholme also pairs it with Stone Blue and School House White.

Primer: Farrow & Ball specifies its Mid Tones Primer & Undercoat. On this site, compare it with Calke Green and Herb Bouquet.
