In real rooms

All things color, in your inbox.
Paint colors worth knowing, the rooms they live in, and where color is going — in design, fashion, and beyond. Free, and only when we have something to say.
How it reads
China White is Benjamin Moore OC-141, from the Off-White collection. The brand says "cool gray undertones freshen up this shade of white," and its LRV of 76.43 puts it a step below the brightest whites, so it reads as a calm, slightly shadowed white rather than a glare.
Kristen Ekeland Interiors used it through the main rooms of a home photographed by Ryan McDonald and styled by Kimberly Swedelius: a dining room with a black steel window wall, a living room with a black marble fireplace and a vaulted sitting room with dark beams. Against all that black the white stays soft rather than stark.
