How it reads

Duck Green No. W55 is a deep, strong but subdued green named after the plumage of a mallard. It is a Farrow & Ball Archive colour, made to order.

It came from Farrow & Ball's 2019 Colour by Nature palette with the Natural History Museum. Farrow & Ball pairs it with Ash Grey and suggests it as a contemporary alternative to charcoal.

What Duck Green is

Duck Green is a deep green named after the plumage of a mallard. It is a Farrow & Ball Archive colour, made to order, with the number W55.

It was introduced in 2019 as part of Colour by Nature, a palette Farrow & Ball created with the Natural History Museum. Livingetc reported it could be layered with Sap Green and Broccoli Brown from the same range.

How it behaves in light

Duck Green is a dark colour, so it absorbs light and makes a room feel enclosed and intimate. Farrow & Ball positions it as a strong but subdued green and a contemporary alternative to charcoal.

We have not found sourced commentary on north- versus south-facing rooms. Sample it on two walls, and expect it to read nearly black in the evening.

Where to use it

In the Studio Nauleau bedrooms on this page, photographed by Michael Clifford, it is colour-drenched across walls and ceiling, with a rust-red armchair, striped bedding and warm wood.

Designer Mark Cutler of CutlerSchulze, in Veranda, says it has a vintage character and works well with lighter stone floors.

What it sits next to

Farrow & Ball pairs it with Ash Grey, and suggests Deep Reddish Brown on woodwork. It specifies Dark Tones primer.

Because it is an Archive colour it is made to order and non-returnable, so test a sample pot first. On this site, compare it with Calke Green and Olive Colour.
