How it reads

Prayer is a lime wash colour from Portola Paints, which describes it as an "antique alabaster pink with neutral moody undertones".

In the MONIOMI Design home on this page, photographed by Jeanne Canto, it covers the walls of a dining room and a large living room, behind ochre velvet seating, striped curtains and a carved stone fireplace.

What Prayer is

Prayer is a colour in Portola Paints' Lime Wash series. Portola describes it as an "antique alabaster pink with neutral moody undertones".

It is a pale, chalky pink rather than a sweet one: the neutral undertone keeps it closer to plaster than to blush.

How it behaves in light

Lime wash dries matte and mottled, so Prayer shifts across a wall as light moves over the brushwork. In warm evening light it deepens toward a dusky rose.

Portola publishes no LRV. Because lime wash reads very differently from any screen or printed swatch, sample it on the actual wall.

Where to use it

In the MONIOMI Design home on this page, photographed by Jeanne Canto, Prayer wraps a dining room with patterned chairs and a sculptural brass pendant, and a large living room with ochre velvet sectional seating and a carved stone fireplace.

The soft pink gives the rich ochres, rusts and burgundies a calm backdrop. Portola also rates lime wash for exteriors and historic restorations.

How to apply it

Portola recommends two coats with a 5-inch stain brush, keeping a wet edge, with a diluted third coat sometimes used on lighter colours.

On this site, compare Prayer with Pixie, a warmer Portola peach, and with Pink Cloud and Dead Salmon for painted pinks.
