In real rooms

All things color, in your inbox.
Paint colors worth knowing, the rooms they live in, and where color is going — in design, fashion, and beyond. Free, and only when we have something to say.
How it reads
Rococo is a lime wash colour from Portola Paints, which describes it simply as "a muted cool eucalyptus".
In the MONIOMI Design home on this page, photographed by Jeanne Canto, it covers the walls of a family room and bar beneath a painted tropical-leaf ceiling.
What Rococo is
Rococo is a colour in Portola Paints' Lime Wash series, described by Portola as "a muted cool eucalyptus".
It sits between green and grey: soft enough to read as a neutral in shade, clearly green in daylight.
How it behaves in light
Like all lime wash, it dries matte and mottled, so the green moves from paler to deeper across each wall.
Portola publishes no LRV. Cool greens can turn greyer in north light, so test it on site.
Where to use it
In the MONIOMI Design home on this page, photographed by Jeanne Canto, Rococo covers a family room with a deep sectional and a bar with woven stools, all under a painted tropical-leaf ceiling.
The eucalyptus tone ties the walls to the botanical ceiling and keeps a bold scheme feeling calm.
How to apply it
Portola recommends two coats with a 5-inch stain brush, keeping a wet edge. Matte Wall Sealer makes the finish wipeable in busy rooms like a bar.
On this site, compare Rococo with Portola's Sweet Tea and Shelter lime washes, or Benjamin Moore Nantucket Gray for a painted green-grey.
