How it reads
Rosy Tan is exactly what the name promises: a dusty pink built on a tan base, so it never reads sweet. Benjamin Moore describes it as 'a powdery blush', and on the wall it has the softness of old plaster.
It is a favourite for bedrooms and sitting rooms because it flatters skin and lamplight alike. Cream trim, natural linen and warm metals keep it calm; a single deep colour — bottle green, navy — gives it an edge.
What Benjamin Moore says about Rosy Tan
Benjamin Moore describes Rosy Tan as 'like a powdery blush, this dusty shade of pink can accent a space in a gentle and natural way.' It sits in the brand's Color Preview collection (2091-50), filed under its red family.
The brand's own coordinating colors for it are Lacey Pearl 2108-70, Sea Froth 2107-60, Floral White OC-29 and Fairview Taupe HC-85.
Benjamin Moore lists Bouquet Rose 2172-50, Belladonna Lily 2093-40, Venetian Rose 1292 and Cool Lava 2088-50 as similar colors — the first places to look if Rosy Tan is close but not quite right.
What the LRV tells you
LRV — light reflectance value — runs from 0 (absorbs all light) to 100 (reflects all of it). At 38.68, Rosy Tan is a true mid-tone — darker than most people expect a 'blush' to be. It will not wash out to a tinted white in bright light the way pale pinks do, and in a dim room it will read as a definite dusty rose rather than a whisper.
LRV says nothing about undertone. Two colors with the same LRV can read completely differently next to the same trim, so treat it as a guide to brightness only and sample the color for the rest.
In the rooms we have photographed
The ten rooms on this page are from Nina Magon Studio. The best-documented use of Rosy Tan is Magon's bedroom for the Kips Bay Decorator Show House in Palm Beach, where, as the Houston Chronicle reported, she added paneling and crown molding 'all painted Benjamin Moore's Rosy Tan' beneath a wallpapered ceiling of her own design.
Beyond Magon's rooms, we have seen it credited on a girl's-bedroom board-and-batten wall and on a painted clawfoot tub, in one case paired with Benjamin Moore Pigeon Gray wainscoting — uses, not reviews.
What we do not know yet
We could not find an independent designer or color-consultant review of Rosy Tan — no published account of how it shifts between north and south light, which finishes it fights with, or where it disappoints. Everything above comes from Benjamin Moore's own data and from the rooms on this page.
Until that coverage exists, the honest advice is the practical one: buy a sample, paint two large boards, and move them between the darkest and brightest walls of the room over a full day. If you have used this color and can tell us how it behaved, we would like to hear from you.
