How it reads
Sheep's Wool 857 is an off-white from Benjamin Moore's Classics collection, which the brand describes simply as "an easygoing off-white with classic appeal". With an LRV of 73.36, it sits clearly below the bright gallery whites, so it reads as a soft, slightly muted white rather than a crisp one.
It is a quiet favourite with designers: Marie Flanigan, quoted in PureWow, calls it a 'transformative white'. Benjamin Moore pairs it with Chantilly Lace or Super White for trim, and with Palladian Blue or Love Affair as accents.
What Sheep's Wool is
Sheep's Wool is an off-white in Benjamin Moore's Classics collection. The brand's description is short and accurate: an easygoing off-white with classic appeal.
Its LRV of 73.36 is the useful number. It is light enough to read as white on the wall, but it has more body than the brightest whites, which is why it looks soft rather than stark in a big, sunny room.
How it behaves in light
Because it is a little deeper than a gallery white, Sheep's Wool holds its colour in strong daylight instead of bleaching out. In the Morgan Harrison Home living rooms on this page, with walls of tall windows, it stays a soft white rather than glaring.
Benjamin Moore publishes no undertone for it, and colour databases describe a faint gray softness. Sample it on the darkest wall of your room too: in dim, north-facing light, any off-white with that much body will read grayer.
Where to use it
It is a whole-house white. The real rooms here use it in living rooms and a hallway, with white trim and a mix of warm wood, yellow and blue furnishings.
For trim, Benjamin Moore points to the cleaner Chantilly Lace or Super White, which give a crisp edge against the softer walls.
What it sits next to
Benjamin Moore's coordinating colours are Super White, Chantilly Lace, Palladian Blue HC-144 and Love Affair 1266.
On this site, compare it with White Dove, a warmer and brighter white, and Simply White, which is much brighter at an LRV near 90.
