Paint colors worth knowing, the rooms they live in, and where color is going — in design, fashion, and beyond. Free, and only when we have something to say.
How it reads
Hollywood Gold 279 is a deep ochre yellow from the Benjamin Moore Classics collection. Benjamin Moore describes it as a colour that "bathes a room in sumptuous warmth" and gives an LRV of 40.45.
In the MONIOMI Design bedroom on this page, photographed by Jeanne Canto, it is colour-drenched over panelled walls with gold bedding and amber curtains.
What Hollywood Gold is
Hollywood Gold 279 is part of the Benjamin Moore Classics collection. Benjamin Moore calls it "a deep ochre yellow that bathes a room in sumptuous warmth".
Its hex is #CAAB55 and its LRV 40.45, so it is a true mid-tone gold rather than a pale buttery yellow.
How it behaves in light
With an LRV around 40 it holds its colour in most light. In low or evening light the ochre deepens toward mustard, as the shaded corners of the bedroom here show.
We found little designer commentary on its behaviour by orientation, so sample it on your darkest wall before committing.
Where to use it
In the MONIOMI Design bedroom on this page, photographed by Jeanne Canto, Hollywood Gold covers panelled walls with gold bedding, amber curtains and a burl-wood nightstand.
Colour-drenching it like this makes the room glow. D Home has also featured it in a designer palette alongside Homespun Charm and Avocado.
What it sits next to
Benjamin Moore's coordinating colours are Swiss Coffee OC-45, Inner Balance 1522, Simply White OC-117 and Mellowed Ivory 2149-50.
On this site, compare it with Farrow & Ball India Yellow and Sudbury Yellow. Matchmypaintcolor lists Sherwin-Williams Antiquity SW 6402 as a near match.
