Chantilly Lace vs Pure White

The cross-brand version of the crisp-or-soft question. Chantilly Lace is one of Benjamin Moore's cleanest whites; Pure White is Sherwin-Williams' softly warm all-rounder. They are six LRV points apart, and the gap is visible.

The short answer

Chantilly Lace OC-65 (LRV 90.04) is brighter and cleaner. Pure White SW 7005 (LRV 83.957) is softer, with gentle warmth. Welsh Design Studio: 'Chantilly Lace is brighter and crisper,' while Pure White has 'gentle warmth that helps it feel inviting even in spaces without a ton of natural light.'

Undertone

Jenna Kate at Home says Chantilly Lace has 'minimal undertones' and describes Pure White as 'a bright white with slight yellow undertones.' Welsh Design Studio calls Pure White 'a soft, slightly warm white with enough gray in it to keep it looking quite neutral.'

Brick & Batten calls Chantilly Lace 'one of the whitest white paint colors around' and Pure White 'one of the more well-balanced whites,' landing in 'the sweet spot of not too creamy, but not too stark.'

Which to choose, and using them together

Welsh Design Studio recommends Chantilly Lace for 'a crisp, modern white with maximum brightness and clarity,' and Pure White for 'a white that still feels fresh, but not as stark (especially in living rooms and bedrooms where you want a softer feel.)' Jenna Kate at Home: 'SW Pure White would be ideal if you're creating a warm and cozy environment.'

These two can work together. Love Remodeled lists Chantilly Lace among the best trim colors for Pure White walls, saying it will 'give just a hint of contrast on your trim.'
