White Dove vs Chantilly Lace
This is the most common choice in white paint: soft or crisp. White Dove is Benjamin Moore's go-to warm white; Chantilly Lace is about as clean as its whites get. Nearly seven LRV points separate them.
The short answer
Chantilly Lace OC-65 (LRV 90.04) is brighter and cleaner. White Dove OC-17 (LRV 83.16) is softer and visibly warmer. Kylie M Interiors calls Chantilly Lace 'Benjamin Moore's WHITEST white with fractional warmth,' adding that 'White Dove has a very noticeable warmth in comparison.'
Welsh Design Studio: 'Benjamin Moore White Dove is noticeably darker and warmer than Benjamin Moore Chantilly Lace.'
Undertone
Brick & Batten says Chantilly Lace 'has virtually no undertones,' while 'White Dove has a bit of warmth to it, but is still straightforward without complicated undertones.' Plank & Pillow: 'White Dove has some subtle yellow undertones, which makes it a good choice for spaces that need a touch of warmth.'
In practice that warmth is the whole decision. White Dove forgives warm wood and creamy finishes; Chantilly Lace stays white against cool ones.
Which to choose
Welsh Design Studio recommends Chantilly Lace 'if you want a brighter, more modern, fresh look – especially next to marble, cool tile, or crisp white finishes,' and White Dove for 'a softer white that feels a little more relaxed and forgiving, especially in homes with warm wood tones.'
Kylie M Interiors makes the same point about finishes: 'Chantilly Lace is often better for gray or cool-toned countertops/tiles.' On trim, she notes that White Dove gives 'a softer, more muted contrast with wall colors, while Chantilly Lace is a cleaner, crisper partner.'
Her verdict is that it's a toss-up between a softer look and a brighter one, which is the honest answer. Look at what is already fixed in the room, such as floors, counters and tile, and let that decide.
