All things color, in your inbox.
Paint colors worth knowing, the rooms they live in, and where color is going — in design, fashion, and beyond. Free, and only when we have something to say.
How it reads
Cafe Sonata is a Portola Paints Roman Clay that the brand describes as a "neutral golden wheat" that leans "slightly more green than red." Roman Clay is a troweled plaster finish rather than a rolled paint, so the color arrives with soft movement and a matte, stone-like surface instead of a flat, even coat.
Isy's Interiors used it across the open living and dining space of a DUMBO apartment in New York, photographed by Kirsten Francis, where it plays against pale oak joinery and the grey light off the river. Portola publishes no digital color values for its plasters and warns that on-screen swatches are rough estimates.
