The difference

Read from the numbers

Catalina Blue is the lighter of the two at LRV 48, 27 points above Spoonful of Sugar at LRV 20.98. Catalina Blue leans cool where Spoonful of Sugar reads warm. Catalina Blue is a blue, Spoonful of Sugar a orange. For a whole room, Catalina Blue is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Spoonful of Sugar is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Despite the name, Catalina Blue lives in the soft territory where blue meets green. It is a muted, sea-glass color — grey enough to stay calm, green enough to feel coastal — that shifts between blue and sage depending on the light it's given.

Do not let the name fool you — Spoonful of Sugar is a deep, saturated caramel-terracotta, not a pastel. With an LRV of 21 it is a real color with real weight, and in a high-gloss lacquer it becomes something else entirely: a warm, glowing envelope that turns a library or dining room into a jewel box.
