The difference

Read from the numbers

Gray Owl is the lighter of the two at LRV 64.51, 5.9 points above Pelican Gray at LRV 58.58. Both read cool. Both belong to the gray family. For a whole room, Gray Owl is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Pelican Gray is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Gray Owl OC-52 is Benjamin Moore's "use-anywhere light gray with a cool, crisp cast". It is in the Off-White Collection, and the same colour also appears in the brand's Color Preview range as 2137-60. Its LRV is 64.51.

Pelican Gray is a light, silvery grey with a clear blue lean — cooler than the greiges that dominated the last decade, and all the better for it. At LRV 59 it is light enough for a small room and grey enough to feel deliberate. It is the grey of a slate roof after rain.
