The difference

Read from the numbers

Stonington Gray is the lighter of the two at LRV 59.36, 11.9 points above Analytical Gray at LRV 47.47. Stonington Gray leans cool where Analytical Gray reads warm. Both belong to the gray family. For a whole room, Stonington Gray is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Analytical Gray is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Stonington Gray is a light gray that Benjamin Moore describes as silvery, with relatively neutral undertones. On a wall it is cooler than that description suggests: a blue undertone shows in north-facing or cool light and relaxes in warm light. At LRV 59 it is light enough for a small room and gray enough to read as a color against white trim.

Analytical Gray is a Sherwin-Williams greige with a decidedly warm, beige lean — closer to a light taupe than to a grey. At LRV 47 it is a comfortable mid-light neutral that holds its colour in both bright and dim rooms.
