The difference

Read from the numbers

Gray Owl is the lighter of the two at LRV 64.51, 5.2 points above Stonington Gray at LRV 59.36. Both read cool. Both belong to the gray family. For a whole room, Gray Owl is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Stonington Gray is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Stonington Gray is a light gray that Benjamin Moore describes as silvery, with relatively neutral undertones. On a wall it is cooler than that description suggests: a blue undertone shows in north-facing or cool light and relaxes in warm light. At LRV 59 it is light enough for a small room and gray enough to read as a color against white trim.

Gray Owl OC-52 is Benjamin Moore's "use-anywhere light gray with a cool, crisp cast". It is in the Off-White Collection, and the same colour also appears in the brand's Color Preview range as 2137-60. Its LRV is 64.51.
