The difference

Read from the numbers

Pine Frost is the lighter of the two at LRV 65.148, 5.8 points above Stonington Gray at LRV 59.36. Both read cool. Stonington Gray is a gray, Pine Frost a green. For a whole room, Pine Frost is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Stonington Gray is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Stonington Gray is a light gray that Benjamin Moore describes as silvery, with relatively neutral undertones. On a wall it is cooler than that description suggests: a blue undertone shows in north-facing or cool light and relaxes in warm light. At LRV 59 it is light enough for a small room and gray enough to read as a color against white trim.

Pine Frost is a pale, frosted green that reads almost as a tinted white in bright light and as a soft silvery sage in shade. At LRV 65 it is light enough for a whole bedroom yet has enough pigment to feel like a decision. There is no sweetness in it — the grey keeps it cool and quiet.
