The difference

Read from the numbers

Sea Salt is the lighter of the two at LRV 63.233, 3.9 points above Stonington Gray at LRV 59.36. Both read cool. Stonington Gray is a gray, Sea Salt a green. For a whole room, Sea Salt is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Stonington Gray is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Stonington Gray is a light gray that Benjamin Moore describes as silvery, with relatively neutral undertones. On a wall it is cooler than that description suggests: a blue undertone shows in north-facing or cool light and relaxes in warm light. At LRV 59 it is light enough for a small room and gray enough to read as a color against white trim.

Sea Salt is a soft green-grey that changes its mind with the light: green in a sunny room, blue-grey in a shaded one. At LRV 63 it is light enough for a whole room and quiet enough to live with for years, which is why it has become a modern classic for bedrooms and bathrooms.
