The difference

Read from the numbers

White Tie is the lighter of the two at LRV 83, 1.1 points above Swiss Coffee at LRV 81.91. Both read warm. Both belong to the white family. For a whole room, White Tie is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Swiss Coffee is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

White Tie No. 2002 is a pale creamy white from Farrow & Ball, named after the starched cotton of white-tie evening dress. Farrow & Ball lists Wimborne White No. 239 as its complementary white and groups it with New White and Matchstick, and with Farrow's Cream and Dorset Cream.

Swiss Coffee is the warm white by which other warm whites are measured. With an LRV near 84 it stays bright and open, but a slight yellow-beige undertone keeps it creamy rather than clinical — the look of fresh cream rather than fresh snow.
