The difference

Read from the numbers

White Tie is the lighter of the two at LRV 83, 5.9 points above Tundra at LRV 77.07. White Tie leans warm where Tundra reads cool. Both belong to the white family. For a whole room, White Tie is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Tundra is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

White Tie No. 2002 is a pale creamy white from Farrow & Ball, named after the starched cotton of white-tie evening dress. Farrow & Ball lists Wimborne White No. 239 as its complementary white and groups it with New White and Matchstick, and with Farrow's Cream and Dorset Cream.

Tundra is the off-white for people who find most whites too creamy. Its LRV of 77 puts it in soft-white territory, but the base is a cool, faintly green-blue grey, so it reads clean and quiet rather than warm. On plaster mouldings and in rooms with a lot of daylight it looks like fresh air.
