The difference

Read from the numbers

Extra White is the lighter of the two at LRV 86, 74.4 points above Deep Secret at LRV 11.64. Both read cool. Extra White is a white, Deep Secret a gray. For a whole room, Extra White is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Deep Secret is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Extra White is a bright, slightly cool white — the closest Sherwin-Williams gets to a gallery wall. At LRV 86 it is crisp and reflective, with a faint blue-grey lean that keeps it clean rather than creamy. It is the white for architecture: plaster reliefs, coffered ceilings, a bank of steel windows.

Deep Secret is a dark charcoal grey with a clear blue undertone — Benjamin Moore files it in the blue family and calls it 'your new favorite gray'. It comes from the Color Stories collection, whose full-spectrum formulas shift more with the light than standard paints.
