How they read
In their own wordsIndia Yellow is Farrow & Ball's deep mustard, described by the brand as "a strong and moody yellow". It is famously named after the pigment once collected from the urine of cows fed on mango leaves, and that story tells you what to expect: a yellow with earth and a little brown in it, closer to ochre than to lemon. Farrow & Ball names New White as its complementary white and suggests using it in moderation in small rooms, where its intensity can take over.
Sicilian Lemon is Benjamin Moore 2020-60, the colour formerly sold as Moonlight. Benjamin Moore renamed it, so older chips and brochures may still say Moonlight, but the number is the same. It is a pale, clear butter yellow with an LRV of 83. It is light enough to behave like a tinted white in a bright room and cheerful enough to make a north-facing one feel as if the sun came out.
