The difference

Read from the numbers

Swiss Coffee is the lighter of the two at LRV 81.91, 24.9 points above Setting Plaster at LRV 57. Both read warm. Setting Plaster is a pink, Swiss Coffee a white. For a whole room, Swiss Coffee is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Setting Plaster is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Setting Plaster No. 231 is a dusty pink from Farrow & Ball, named after "the blushing walls we often admire in newly plastered houses". The brand says it is "definitely a pink in historic terms, but has a certain softness to it due to the inclusion of yellow pigment".

Swiss Coffee is the warm white by which other warm whites are measured. With an LRV near 84 it stays bright and open, but a slight yellow-beige undertone keeps it creamy rather than clinical — the look of fresh cream rather than fresh snow.
