The difference

Read from the numbers

Starry Night Blue is the lighter of the two at LRV 7.51, 0.5 points above Viridian Odyssey at LRV 7. Both read cool. Both belong to the blue family. For a whole room, Starry Night Blue is the safer, more forgiving choice thanks to its higher LRV, while Viridian Odyssey is the bolder pick.

How they read

In their own words

Starry Night Blue is Benjamin Moore's inkiest navy, and the brand files it under purple for a reason: there is a definite violet cast under the blue, so it reads as dusk rather than nautical. With an LRV under 8 it swallows light, which is exactly what you want when a room is meant to feel enclosed and dramatic.

Viridian Odyssey is a deep teal that reads almost black until light touches it, and then it reveals an inky blue-green with real depth. At LRV 7 it is one of the darkest colors in the library — a genuine envelope color for panelling, cabinetry and rooms meant to feel like the inside of a jewel box.
